Nathan & Natalie's Wedding: A Family Affair

January 27, 2014  •  1 Comment

You know what I like most about photographing weddings? The people I get to work with.

I know that may sound like a canned response for a wedding photographer, but it's also one of the hardest things about the job. When I shoot a wedding, I get to work with a couple for months on end, planning their day, shooting engagement photos, designing books, etc. I get to meet their families, and I'm privileged and tasked with capturing some of the most intimate moments of joy and affection. And then I never see them again. At least, I don't usually see them again for years. Then the family photos start.

So I get to build all these relationships around creatively capturing these moments of joy and then—poof! Gone.

Now granted, this is part of the job. That's just what it's like to shoot weddings. A very sweet and bitter experience.

But Nathan and Natalie's situation was one of the big, joyful exceptions! We've worked with this bride's family before.

Not only was this a wedding day, it was a reunion! Another happy chance to watch two families come together in love and celebration.

And that they did. We started off at The Inn at Gig Harbor and from there moved to the waterfront to get some of our formal photos. Take a special look at the last two photos. As a throwback to Natalie's sister Emily's wedding, the four sisters requested a specific photo. If you can't tell, they're spelling the word "love."

The ceremony and reception were held over at Fox Island Alliance Church. The sanctuary of the church was still decorated for Christmas, which was the perfect atmosphere for this late December wedding. Maybe the family photos can be used for next year's Christmas cards? Pay close attention to the reception photos—the decorations were BEAUTIFULLY done, and were an excellent use of the space.

Whether or not you'll see your photographer again soon after your wedding, you'll be working with him or her a lot. Make sure your personalities click! That's why we like to meet up with our brides and grooms in person, or even over Skype; it gives us a chance to get to know each other before contracts are signed. If you'd like to meet up with us and discuss your wedding, call us at 253-310-1713, or send us a message through our contact page.
