Any of you remember Cathie and Gerard’s engagement photos? We spent one of the first beautiful days of the year down at our state’s capitol in Olympia, WA. The day was a lot of fun, partly because Cathie and Gerard are a fun couple. Whether playing peek-a-boo behind capitol building pillars or pulling each other through the water park, they made each other laugh and have fun.

Last month I photographed Cathie and Gerard’s wedding day. While last time I saw them play and laugh, this time I saw them give each other not only joy, but also peace. Perhaps the joy comes partially from Gerard’s Irish charm (his brothers shared this charm, and no matter how hard I tried, my “candid” photos of them turned into posed photos of beautiful Irish men). Whatever the case, Gerard couldn’t stop smiling, and the lovely Cathie was delighted to be with him.

After the ceremony, I asked Cathie and Gerard to stop and rest for a moment. Like most weddings, it had been a whirlwind day, and I knew the two needed a break to catch their breath. In the stillness of the now-empty sanctuary, Cathie rested her head against her husband and just enjoyed the peace. Later the two would have a long, fun night of dancing with friends and family, but for now it was just them.
