Some weddings inspire lots of laughter. Some weddings inspire tears. Soren and Kathlyn’s wedding did both.

First, for the laughter. Soren and Kathlyn’s wedding was at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, in front of the shark tank. Being the ridiculously fun couple that they are, we had to do something special. Cue the suspenseful music and—SHARKS.

Moments of laughter abounded this day. Kathlyn has three daughters, and they all took part in the wedding in their own ways, whether with exuberant running or sucker punching their new stepdad. A few photos look sweet and romantic until you look more closely and . . . well, you’ll see.

But before we get into the rest of the photos, I need to tell you about Soren and how he brought tears to everyone’s eyes. During the ceremony, Soren and Kathlyn wanted to include their girls as much as possible. They included vows for the daughters to say to Soren, and a vow for Soren to make to them. Then, as a complete surprise, Soren pulled out necklaces for each of the girls, with a miniature diamond ring on each one. The evening was full of beautiful moments like this. I’ve rarely seen a man so loving and so excited to become a stepdad.
