The Dieringers and Baby Rowen

About two months ago we had the chance to drive out to Bremerton to shoot maternity photos with Bethany. Well, the big day finally came and went, and we were once again welcomed into their home for photos. But this time, we got to meet baby Rowan in person!

Little Rowan (only a few days old) was one of the most relaxed infants we've ever worked with. And it reminded me of one of my favorite aspects of setting my own schedule. In the past, when working at higher volume portrait studios, I'd get about 10 minutes with each client. This is hardly conducive to working with fussy, impatient, unpredictable babies. The infants we work with almost always need more than an hour—it takes time to pose, to calm, and to keep them happy.

So, we spent about an hour and a half with the Dieringers, and it went fantastic. Rowan didn't cry or fuss, and he put up with gentle posing for the pretty much the entire session. But part of the reason why he did so well was because we had time available for resting, calming, and feeding him. (We were even able to get a couple photos with Dad and Big Brother during one of our baby breaks, too!)

Folks, giving yourself enough time to patiently work with your children is key to a good session. This is part of the reason we offer (and encourage!) longer sessions with kids. They don't last long, and breaks are necessary.

If you have a couple hours free for some relaxed family photos, we'd love to hear from you. Contact us today to schedule a session.
