That Time We Hiked for Engagement Photos

Joey and Stephanie's engagement session was out of our comfort zone.

Stephanie and Hannah have been good friends for seven years now, so we couldn't really say no when she asked to do hiking  engagement photos. It fit with their camping themed wedding, and it sounded like a lot of fun to go explore the Quilcene area of the Olympic Peninsula, have a picnic, and see the waterfall where Joey proposed. So we agreed and spent the day with our dear friends, and during our adventure we learned a few things.

  1. Joey and Stephanie like the outdoors. A lot. A whole lot. While driving up the mountain pass, they kept stopping every few hundred feet to check out logs for wedding decorations. And I mean BIG logs. You'll see what I mean in the first few photos. (When we post the wedding photos in a few weeks, see if you can spot where they used their prize stump!)
  2. Hiking isn't so bad, it's the hills that get you. Especially when you're carrying camera gear. We decided we need to do more hiking so the next trip will be easier.
  3. Joey and Stephanie don't exactly stick to the trails. We played follow-the-leader at the end to get across the river to our picnic spot. I think it was worth it, though.
  4. These two could be models for REI. Seriously, who could argue after seeing these photos?

We were stretched on this shoot, but it was well worth it. We love these guys and were excited we had the chance to take their engagement photos. Keep an eye on the blog over the next few weeks to see Joey and Stephanie's camping wedding blog post!
