Classic Cars & Root Beer Bars: Mike & Becca's Wedding

I suppose I'm lucky that corny rhyming hasn't yet been classified as an actual crime yet.

But I digress! Today I want to share with you some of the sweetest youth workers you've ever met. (You may remember them from "How to plan a Seattle Engagement Session") Mike works at his local church with middle school students, and Becca is well on her way to a Master's in Psychology, hoping to work as a youth counselor.

Our day began at the home of Becca's aunt and uncle. While Hannah worked with the gals inside of their beautiful home, I got to head out to the man cave with the guys.

As time wore on, our attention shifted from the pinball, pool, and classic Americana of the man cave to getting ready for the wedding day. Mike and his men got dressed, and the girls did the same. With a bit of our free time, we grabbed some portraits out in front of the cars, and then booked for the wedding venue, the beautiful Pickering Barn!

Upon arrival, we jumped right into family photos. Time was of the essence, and we had quite a list to get. Unfortunately, we did hit a bit of a snag—the wedding guests started to arrive early! Not wanting to be seen before the ceremony, Becca opted for indoor portraits. Thankfully, we had plenty of muscle on hand to guard the doors into the barn.

With all the formal work out of the way, the real celebration began. The ceremony commenced, tears were shed, and Mike and Becca became husband and wife.

Days like these help to impress upon me the weight and wonder of marriage. The people we work with are indeed clients, but the professional aspect of the relationship never lessens the ongoing sense that I've witnessed, time and again, something deep and mysterious in a wedding. It's amazing to watch two people commit joyfully to laying aside the old life and becoming one. And then sometimes smearing each other with cake.

(Fortunately for Mike, he had the gracious sense to start off their marriage on a cake-free high note.)
